In early 1982, Maloney made its first foray into the Central America & Caribbean region when we were nominated for load port supervision of a 5,000 MT bulk sugar vessel in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.   While this first nomination was modest in scale, it proved to be a fortuitous breakthrough into a regional market that would rapidly become a leading export base to the United States following the reinstitution of the US Sugar Quota in 1982 and the passing of the Caribbean Basin Initiative in 1983.

Over the next two decades, as this region's production and export of sugar-related commodities grew steadily, Maloney gradually expanded its presence from the Dominican Republic to such key cities as: San Juan and Ponce (Puerto Rico), Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala), Acajutla (El Salvador), Corinto (Nicaragua), and Punta Morales (Costa Rica).

Today, Maloney maintains an active presence throughout Central America and the Caribbean with experienced full-time personnel stationed in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.   This trusted team of senior surveyors, trained to handle an extensive range of liquid and dry cargo products, has over the years developed a comprehensive familiarity with all of the region's principle ports, warehouses and export terminals for handling bulk, bagged and liquid cargo.   Further, these personnel are specifically adept at performing stock audits and volumetric measurements of liquids required for collateral management and verification assignments for financial institutions.

In the over 25 years since our initial export assignment in the Dominican Republic, Maloney has acquired the requisite regional experience, personnel, and reputation necessary in order to provide clients with the professional service that produces the consistently reliable results they demand.
